The Horry County Police Department is investigating after a mental health patient stole an ambulance at Grand Strand Medical Center.
In a press release, Horry County Police say they responded to a “mental subject call” on Blue River Court, near Myrtle Beach. They took the person into protective custody and brought them to the hospital.
After being placed in the care of the hospital staff the person made threats and ran while security was called in. They exited the hospital near the EMS bay and at around 9:47 Sunday morning stole a Horry County Fire Rescue ambulance that was parked there. Two people and a medic were in the back of the ambulance.
The person then drove the ambulance around the parking lot, causing property damage until officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department were able to take them into custody.
Charges are expected to be filed against the person.
No injuries are reported and the Horry County Police Department is investigating.
