FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence Police arrested a 21-year-old man early Thursday morning who officers say was wanted in connection to a 2014 reported attempted armed robbery.

Maj. Carlos Raines, spokesman for the Florence Police Department, says officers were conducting a building check on Waverly Avenue and Sunset Drive Thursday morning when they spotted a suspicious vehicle with people inside. Raines says during a check of the vehicle, officers found contraband and weapons inside.

Raines says officers arrested Devon Bashan Short, 21, of Florence, following the vehicle search. He was charged with possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number, giving false information to law enforcement and unlawful carrying of a pistol.

Investigators say Short was also wanted on outstanding warrants in connection to a reported attempted armed robbery on Irby Street in 2014.

According to Florence County Detention Center booking records Thursday, Short was also charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
