An arrest report obtained by News13 suggests that the friend and former roommate of Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof lied to officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department during his recent arrest.

Joey Meek was charged with loitering and driving a vehicle in an unsafe manner Tuesday evening after an incident in the area of 8th Avenue North and North Ocean Boulevard.

According to the arrest report, an officer was flagged down by someone who reported that a man was pulling on door handles. Officers were able to track him down from his truck.

When officers located Meek, officers said they gave Meek the opportunity to tell the truth about what had happened. However, Meek “continually lied about actions which could be verified by camera”, according to the arrest report.

This comes after Meek served prison time for lying to federal agents in connection to the Dylann Roof case. In 2017, Meek was sentenced to more than two years for concealing knowledge of Roof’s crime. Meek previously told the FBI he knew about Roof’s desire to start a race war and kill churchgoers before the 2015 shootings.
