The Florence Police Department says one person died after they were shot on June 28.

Lt. Mike Brandt, spokesman for the agency, says officers were called to the 1100-block of Sopkin Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. When they arrived, one person was found shot.

Brandt says the person shot died from his injuries at an area hospital. The Florence County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Kevin Henicks, 36, of Florence.

Police detained Eric Henicks at the scene. After an investigation police concluded that Eric Henicks acted in self defense and will not be charged.
