HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Three Hartsville Middle School students are charged with disturbing school and unlawful communication after waving around a pellet gun, police say.
Lt. Mark Blair with the Hartsville Police Department says three students, whose names have not been released, were caught on camera waving around a pellet gun and making threats. All three students were charged with disturbing schools and unlawful communication, processed at the police station and released to their parents.
The students will each have a hearing in family court in the coming weeks, says Lt. Blair.
The Darlington County School District commented on the incident on Facebook, noting “Last night local law enforcement officials were notified about a threat made on social media regarding Hartsville Middle School…students thought they were being funny by waving around a pellet gun and posting things on social media. Now they face disciplinary action from the school district as well as possible criminal charges.”
The district goes on to ask parents to talk with their children and explain that “threatening a school is not a joke or a prank.”
