Police arrest reportedly armed man who fled crash scene, entered Coastal Grand Mall

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Police have arrested a man who they say ran into the Coastal Grand Mall after reportedly fleeing the scene of a car crash on Harrelson Boulevard Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the mall, located at 100 Coastal Grand Circle, just before 7 p.m. Wednesday after a man fled the scene of a crash on Harrelson Boulevard and ran into Coastal Grand Mall, allegedly carrying a gun.

Lt. Joey Crosby with Myrtle Beach Police says officers were called to an accident on Harrelson Boulevard, near Coastal Grand Mall around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers received information that a person from that accident, identified as Ajay Malikk Alston, 21, fled the scene on foot and ran into the mall.

Additional information was received that Alston possibly had a gun, adds Lt. Crosby. Officers searched the mall, but were unable to locate the suspect.

An incident report from Myrtle Beach Police states officers searched through the mall after being told by an employee at Bed Bath & Beyond that two men, one chasing the other, ran in through the mall entrance near the witness’ place of work. Surveillance video corroborates the witness’ story showing two men, one in a red hooded sweatshirt being chased by another man. Officers searched the mall, and located a red hooded sweatshirt in the trashcan of one of the men’s restrooms, but did not find the suspected armed man.

Alston was located and arrested Friday morning at 9:20 a.m. He is charged with unlawful carrying of pistol and pointing and presenting firearms at a person.
