MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Police charged a man, who they found in the woods, with firearms violations after gun shots were reported at a nearby park.
Michael Andre Barnes, 36, was arrested for pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, unlawful carrying and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Myrtle Beach Police had been called to Futrell Park at about 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday for reported gunshots. A witness to the incident told police they followed a man after he was picked up in a car until he was dropped off near 3rd Avenue and Cedar Street, according to the police report.
The witness told investigators they were able to record a man matching Barnes’ description get out of the car, run behind a plaza on Highway 501 and into the woods.
Officers, who were in the area, begin a search in the woods and heard rustling sounds. That’s when they found Barnes, according to the report.
Investigators say the area where witnesses say the gun was tossed is a frequently traveled path that connects the woods to the plaza. The gun was not in the area when police arrived, according to the report.
