MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – In North Myrtle Beach today there was a special, and at times somber, celebration of our nation’s freedom.

Volunteers carried flags along the eight mile stretch of the coast in North Myrtle Beach. Half of the volunteers started the march on the north end of North Myrtle Beach and the other half started on the south end.

They met in the middle at Main St. where the volunteers passed the flags to members of the military currently serving. They were surrounded by hundreds of spectators holding flags.

The flags were then brought up the beach where a flag-raising ceremony was held.

“God Bless America” and the “Star Spangled Banner” were sang and hundreds of spectators watched while wearing red, white and blue.
