MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Multiple reports of scam phone calls have been received by the City of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Police Department, according to the city’s official Facebook page.
The post states that scam callers are telling the individual who answers the phone that the victim has allegedly missed jury duty and will be subjected to jail time and a fine, which they need to pay right away.
Another report states that a scam artist claimed to be the victim’s grandson calling from an Atlanta prison where he had been charged with DUI. The scammer then requested money to be wired to “his attorney” and requested “no credit cards” to be used.
City officials warn Myrtle Beach residents to be wary of any phone call that is not initiated by you requesting money or financial information.
