MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports a Philadelphia man died Saturday after he was hit crossing Highway 501 near West Perry Road.
Trooper say the crash happened around 1:30 Saturday morning when the driver of a 2008 Jeep traveling south on Highway 501 hit the pedestrian who attempted to walk west across the roadway.
SCHP says there was a female passenger in the vehicle but both people were wearing a seatbelt and were not hurt.
Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden identifies the pedestrian as Justin Giani, 25 years old, of Philadelphia. McSpadden said he died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center of injuries sustained in the collision.
Officials say there will not be an autopsy. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
