No one is cooperating with authorities after a person was shot twice and their car hit by multiple bullets during a drive-by shooting  near Bennettsville Monday night.

Marlboro County Sheriff Fred Knight said that the shooting near Sawyer Street near Bennettsville might be linked to a fight earlier Monday  evening at an apartment complex in Bennettsville city limits.

Knight said that the victim suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds “and should recover fully” from the shooting that happened around midnight.

Knight also said that the sheriff’s office is trying to determine if the shooting “is in any way gang related.”

Sheriff Fred Knight said the incident unfolded like this:

“The victim was standing near a friends car when a white Ford Crown Victoria pulled up and fired shots. Several rounds also struck the car at the scene near the victim. That car was impounded to be processed and hopefully bullet and forensic evidence collected that will be valuable to the investigation,” said Knight.

“Investigators are also interviewing numerous witnesses and have met challenges as far as cooperation from all parties involved,” Knight added.

Knight also said that he was especially interested to learn if the shooting was gang related

“We are conducting a through Investigation and if it reveals that this is in any way gang related, we are going to work with the U.S. Attorneys Office in Florence and the FBI to dismantle the arrest all involved on both sides. We’ve done this on several occasions over the last few years and have been successful. If anyone has any information, please call and ask for a Investigator and your information will remain confidential,” Knight added.
