A single-vehicle accident killed one person in Marion County Saturday night, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

LCpl. Hannah Wimberly says the accident happened on Maiden Down Road near SC-41 Alternate around 9:40 p.m.

Wimberly says a 2006 Jeep Cherokee traveling east on Maiden Down Road went off the right side of the road, struck a tree and caught on fire.

At this time, it is unclear if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the victim.
