LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – On Monday employees from Perdue Farms out of Rockingham  handed out bagged lunches at the Lumber River True Value hardware on Roberts Avenue.

Volunteers brought the supplies, grilled the food, and bagged them up.

Lumberton had some of the worst damage from Hurricane Matthew  and volunteers said the people of the community were in desperate need of the help.

“They’re really thankful. There’re very appreciative. I had one lady that said she and her daughter were driving around because they were looking for something to eat because they were hungry so they were really grateful and thankful,” Human Resources Manager Lesley King said.

In all, Perdue Farms volunteers cooked about 2,500 grilled chicken sandwiches.
