MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Several people scrambled to get to CVS’s on Thursday night after receiving calls the store would close at 8 p.m.
Shirley Ferguson said she got the call and knew she had to get to the store to pick up her husband’s medicine.
“We had to kind of go shuffle through all his reserves and make sure that he had everything because he is a diabetic with high blood pressure and everything else so his medicine is definitely a need,” said Ferguson. She’s staying in Myrtle Beach to ride out the storm and hopes she is prepared.
“I have a dog,” she said. “And because of my husbands needs we decided that it was best to ride it out. We are somewhat in a flood zone but pray to God that it’s not as bad as they say.”
Unlike Ferguson, Richard Young and his family are headed out of town.
“My wife’s scared,” Young laughed. “I wouldn’t mind staying but we’ve got two kids so we’re trying to get out of here.”
Both Ferguson and Young didn’t know the stores would be closing and were glad they got there in time.
“This is my first hurricane,” said Young. “I’ve only been down here a couple years so just trying to stock up on everything really.”
All Walgreens and Rite Aids in the Myrtle Beach area will be closed until further notice. Most Walmarts will be open unless the storm is worse than expected.
The CVS on 38th Avenue in Myrtle Beach will be open on Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m but the pharmacy will only be open until 6 p.m.
