MYRTLE BEACH – The Myrtle Beach Pelicans scored five runs in the fifth inning to roll past Wilmington 9-1 Thursday in the season opener for both teams.
Jacob Rogers went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI to lead the Pelicans (1-0). His homer broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth and put Myrtle Beach up for good. Victor Caratini went 2-for-4 and drove in two. Myrtle Beach had 15 hits on the night.
Dominique Taylor drove in Wilmington’s only run. Bubba Starling and Zane Evans each had two hits for the Blue Rocks (0-1).
