MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – May is military appreciation month in the city of Myrtle Beach.
As part of the celebrations, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans honored local heroes at their game Saturday night.
Pelicans players wore the stars and stripes on their uniforms, and the first 1,000 fans who came through the gates got a set of baseball cards featuring local service members.
Those same service members were also recognized before the game.
People waved and wore flags and many veterans came out to lend their support for those who sacrifice so much.
“I just don’t think the veterans get all the credit they deserve and I don’t think they make near the money they should for protecting the United States of America,” said U.S. Air Force Veteran, Bill Reams.
The military appreciation days parade is next weekend. The Grand Marshall will be Army veteran and Dancing with the Stars alum Noah Galloway.
This year the parade returns to the former Myrtle Beach Air Force base which is now home to the Market Common.
