Wall collapse at Timmonsville fire sends 2 firefighters to hospital

TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Two firefighters were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a wall collapsed on a burning building in Timmonsville, officials confirm.

West Florence Fire Public Information Officer Dwight Mobley says a winery in Timmonsville, located off of Lamar Highway, caught fire Tuesday morning. Several fire departments responded – West Florence, Howe Springs, Darlington County, Olanta and Sardis -Timmonsville – to put out the fire.

Sardis -Timmonsville Fire Chief Jeff Dennis says the call came in around 5:45 a.m. for the fire at Cartersville Country Winery. The fire actually started in a building adjacent to the winery, adds Dennis.

Dennis says a wall of the building collapsed, sending two firefighters to the hospital.

Mobley says one of the injured firefighters was from West Florence Fire. Both are expected to be okay, but still needed to be checked out by doctors.

No one was inside the building when the fire started. Fire officials have not commented on what may have caused the fire.
