A University of South Carolina sophomore won $125,000 on a lottery ticket given as a Christmas gift by his grandma, according to a press release from SC Education Lottery.
“I’m sitting there and my grandma gives each of the grandkids two scratch offs for every Christmas and the most anyone has ever won was like maybe $20,” said Collin Goff.
Collin Goff scratched off the “Quick $250!” ticket on Christmas Day, the release says. The winning ticket was sold at Sav A Step LLC in Florence.
“i scratched it off and didn’t even really know how to read it at first. I was shocked,” Goff said in the release. “We all were.”
Goff spent the holidays with family in Florence. He says his grandma gives each grandchild two lottery tickets for Christmas.
“It hasn’t completely hit me yet,” he also said. “I know I’m not going to do anything differently, just excited to start off 2019 on a good note.”
Goff said 2018 was a hard year for him as he underwent brain surgery. But, he says his family helped him through it.
“I had some bad luck,” Goff said. “But right now, I’m excited to be going back to school.”
Goff is also a LIFE scholarship recipient at USC, the release says.
“We;re just so glad this happened for Collin. He is a fine young man. A Christmas we’ll never forget,” said grandmother Cameron Minshew.

“Two top prizes of $125,000 remain in the $5 Quick $250!,” adds the release. Odds of winning are about 1 in 480,000.
Sav A Step received a commission of $1,250 for selling the winning ticket.
