MARLBORO COUNTY (WBTW) – South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning crash that left one person dead on Monday.
The Marlboro County coroner’s office has identified the victim as Antowan Pate, 36, of Bennettsville.
According to officials, Pate was traveling eastbound on Bruton Fork Church Road outside of Benettsville around 1 a.m., and ran off to the right side of the road. The 2004 Buick then struck a draining culvert, and overturned several times. Pate, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was thrown from the car according to state troopers.
Officials pronounced Pate dead on scene.
