HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A semi-truck crash in Darlington County forced officials to evacuate people who were nearby.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes shortly before 11 p.m. Friday after first responders cleared the scene. 

A semi-truck hauling a tanker was leaking fuel in the area of 3625 W Bobo Highway. According to a firefighter on scene the area about 1,500 feet around the truck had to be evacuated. Two big rigs were involved in the crash that happened at around 10 a.m. Friday. 

According to Darlington County Emergency Management, the two big rigs were both carrying fuel. There were only minor injuries from the crash. 

Deputies in Darlington County say the road will be closed for several hours.

Crews are also working to route traffic around the crash because of the fuel leak.

  • 3509- 3802 W. Bobo Newsom Hwy 
  • Santee Dr to Lynches Dr.
  • All of Lynches Dr.
  • Kirvin Dr to Winburn Dr.
  • All of Winburn Dr.
  • All of Lake Robinson Circle

Red Cross officials tell News13 they have opened a shelter for people forced to evacuate. The shelter is located at New Market United Methodist Church. The address is:
