FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – All northbound lanes of I-95 in Florence are now open after two semi-trucks caught on fire, causing a major traffic backup.
The three lanes of the interstate highway northbound were closed between Exit 164 US-52 and Exit 169 TV Road early Wednesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
News13 was on the scene and reported lanes closed as late as 9 a.m. and traffic backed up for at least 10 miles. I-20 eastbound also was backed up where it merges with I-95 at the corridor.
A tractor-trailer caught on fire early in the morning with large, black clouds of smoke filling the air. A second semi-truck, also involved, was carrying lumber and partially spilled on the road. Some of the lumber caught on fire in the back of the truck.
Troopers have not reported injuries at this time. No reports on the cause of the fire yet.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
