The Florence Lions Club had its 35th annual toy run Sunday afternoon.
Hundred of bikers started their engines at the Florence Center to donate toys or $20 to help children in the Pee Dee.
“We are celebrating 35 years of toy run, this started back in 1993,” said co-chairman of Lions Club Billy Jarrell.
The bikers continued their ride to eastern Carolinas Fairgrounds for an all day event. “I don’t know of any tradition that is centered around the motorcycle community and that’s lasted this long. I think it speaks volume for the people that come out and support,” said Jarrell.
At the end of the ride bikers enjoyed door prizes, live auction, and food at the fairgrounds.
“Getting to come out here and do the toy run and bring groceries during Christmas time, I feel like that’s what Christmas is all about. So being able to come out and do that is awesome. It’s a neat experience,” said attendee Nicole Griggs.
All the money the event raises goes to the club’s annual Good Fellows event in December, purchasing toys, eye and ear exams for children.
“Lots of times we come out and there’s no toys under the trees. So for the toy run we’ll work with Lighthouse ministry and some of the other great ministries here in the community, ” said Griggs.
The Florence Lions Club hopes to gives presents this year to over 300 children and continue this tradition.
