SLED investigates allegations made against Marion police chief

MARION, SC (WBTW) – Marion Police Chief Dewayne Tennie, who is currently on paid administrative leave, is being investigated by state agents.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesperson Thom Berry confirms SLED is investigating allegations made against Chief Tennie, but would not expand on the content of those allegations.

Chief Tennie has been on paid leave since March 2, according to city officials. The city, however, would not comment on why the chief is on leave, citing it as a “personnel matter.” Marion City Council held a special called meeting Tuesday night with only two items on the agenda: a “legal update” and a personnel matter regarding the police chief.

After an hour in executive session, Marion City Council made no action on either matter. Council members refused an interview following the meeting.

It is unclear how long Chief Tennie will be on paid leave.
