LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – The Lake City Mayor and Florence school district three held the first ever Student Town hall meeting. The goal was to hear the concerns of future generations.
Members from the Senate, the county, and city were all there to answer student questions.
Students that could not attend wrote down their concerns.
Some of the student concerns:
- Abandoned homes
- More recreational activities
- School safety
Senator District 32 Ronnie Sabb who represents Berkeley, Florence, Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties says he stands with students.
He says he disagrees with Governor Henry McMaster statement calling the ‘walkout’ protests “shameful”.
“I do not believe that those of you that are standing strong and are demanding we provide safe havens for you when it comes to your education. I don’t believe you are being used as pawns nor that I believe it’s shameful, in fact, I believe it’s courageous. So, I would encourage anyone that feels strongly about the issue… if you want to gather and march then by all means…,” said Sabb.
