Students and teachers across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee dusted off their favorite books Friday for National Read Across America Day.

The celebration of reading motivation and awareness falls on March 2 – the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Students at Lucy T. Davis Elementary School not only read their favorite books, but dressed up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character, too!

“Dr. Seuss is an engaging author. He has a great way of hooking kids with the rhyming words, making the kids excited, adding interesting characters into the story. It just gets kids hooked and wanting to read more,” Brittany Wilson, a literacy coach, said.

If Dr. Seuss were alive, he’d be 114 years old Friday.
