Perdue Farms celebrated completing a $25 million expansion at its Dillon operation, creating 100 more jobs. Director of Operations for the Dillon Facility, Randy Brown, said the project started in July of 2017.
“It’s been quite a long project, but it’s very rewarding for everyone that’s been a part of it to see it come to a completion,” Brown said.
With the investment, Perdue Farms expanded its portioning and marinating operations, added a state-of-the-art shipping cooler, installed an automated pallet storage system and built office space to occupy more than 28,000 square feet at the existing Dillon facility. Its located at 2047 Highway 9 West.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers attended the completion ceremony on Tuesday. Governor McMaster said the expansion will impact the entire state.
“Anything that helps Dillon, helps the state. Anything that helps the state, helps Dillon. When people are working, things are better,” McMaster said.
Dillon County was awarded a $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to assist with costs related to the project.
According to Brown, the expansion will help improve bird production and bring future opportunities.
“Hopefully, we’ll get an increase to come in the next couple of years to where we’ll have more pounds flowing through the facility and maybe create some more jobs for Dillon County.”
