Residents who had flooding in their homes, are now worried about their health.
A neighborhood on Covington street in Latta, was severely affected by floodwaters and residents are concerned about the mold growing inside their home.
“I can pull up the rug and there’s mold all over it,” said resident Michael Paige.
Paige and his wife have lived in the neighborhood for more than 15 years.
This is the second time they’ve experienced flooding in the neighborhood, but the couple said this time around the water stayed inside for much longer.
“The furniture is messed up, and all the floors,” said Paige.
The family lost all their food inside the freezer and refrigerator after Hurricane Florence.
“Other people have had situation worse than us. We are blessed,” said Paige.
Families across the region may be anxious to get back home after the water is gone, but doctors say mold can be potentially harmful to your health.
“The most common would be an allergic reaction. Mainly asthma associated reaction, generally a cough that persists for weeks or months,” said Dr. Temujin Chavez.
Dr. Chavez urge residents to take action if mold is found inside your home.
“You would use a bleach solution or cleaning solution to clean all the walls, and the floors that have been affected. That might also involve ripping some of the walls and flooring,” said Dr. Chavez.
Doctors say if you’re experiencing severe mold issues, you should call a specialist to inspect your home.
