On Tuesday, Pee Dee area students were able to attend the Wood Magic Forest Fair in Florence County.
The fair is hosted by the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
Area fifth graders enjoyed the fun, fact filled event. The activities showed the importance of the forest to wildlife, the economy, and our daily lives.
“A lot of the kids these days, they don’t get a chance to be out in the forest and actually learn about it. So, that’s why this program is so hands on, so the kids get a chance to learn, you know, they learn better by doing,” said Matt Schnabel, the environmental education coordinator for the SC Forestry Commission.
More than 30,000 students have participated in the program since it began in 1999.
The festival runs until this Friday.
