Monday’s heavy rain left residents in Florence County with several inches of water in their front yard.

Resident Rudy Sheppard said this is a constant issue around the neighborhood.

“Now if it just barely rains, that ditch right there never floods, but now it floods all the way back,” said Sheppard.

Sheppard has lived on eagle street and lake oakdale drive for nearly 10 years, and said it’s impossible for him to park his vehicle or get inside his home without getting soaked.

“Over the last 3 years it got worse, now it doesn’t leave at all and the reason it doesn’t is because we have a drain which is in my driveway and it’s the only drain on the street,” said Sheppard.

One major problem many residents have noticed  around their homes is the connection bridge that hasn’t been repaired since Hurricane Matthew.

“My son lives across the bridge, now I have to go a mile out of the way. I had access across the bridge, it’s ridiculous,” said Sheppard.

Florence County’s emergency director Dusty Ownes said Pelican Road and Bryns Blvd are the only two roads that have not been repaired since 2016.

“One is a state road and the other is a county road. We are waiting for actions of other individuals or agencies and then once those are completed then the repair of those two roads can continue,” said Owens.

The county said it does not have a timeline on when the two roads will be repaired.
