A Dominos Pizza employee was shot and killed overnight while making a routine delivery in Darlington.
According to Lt. Robert Kilgo, deputies responded to Rogers Road near Larrys Drive just before midnight Saturday and found someone unconscious in a car.
Coroner Todd Hardee arrived and pronounced a Dominos employee dead at the scene. Hardee identified the employee as 39-year-old Abdul McKenzie of Darlington. He was an employee of Domino’s Pizza in Darlington for 20 years. A co-worker who has known McKenzie since 2004 said she was shocked that something like this happened to him.
“He was a very pleasent and intelligent young man. When I met him he had a lot of manners and was a hardworker. I’m going to miss him. He’s one of my children. I’m praying for him and my church is praying for him,” said co-worker, Joan Harris.
McKenzie leaves behind a wife of 10 years and three little girls.
His wife said McKenzie was the type of person to drop everything to help you when you’re in need. “Our kids loved him to death. He always took care of what he needed as a father. There was never a dull moment in our house, ever. Those girls got treated like royalty,” said wife, Trinity Sampson.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
