FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Florence-Darlington County Commission for Technical Education met Thursday, but did not take any action.
The three-hour meeting was held entirely in executive session.
Florence-Darlington County Commission Chairwoman, Missy Jay, said the meeting was “very productive.”
She held up folders and said there are multiple packets of material that the board will review.
“We’re going to digest this material,” she said before the meeting was adjourned.
Earlier this week, News13 reported that Florence-Darlington Technical College owes $1.6 million to the U.S. Department of Education.
The college failed to properly monitor financial aid.
FDTC’s attorney, Mark Buyck, said the school originally processed financial aid manually, but now uses computers which led to the error.
Buyck said the college now has four new employees to monitor financial aid.
Jay told News13 earlier this week, it’s too soon to know how the college will repay the money or how it will affect students and staff.
The board did not want to speak with News13 at Thursday night’s meeting.
The Chairwoman said the board’s next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Mar. 8 at 4 p.m.
