LAMAR, SC (WBTW) – There’s a new top cop in the town of Lamar.
Carl Scott was named the new police chief, according to Mayor Darnell Byrd McPherson. Scott started on Monday. He served with the Florence County Sheriff’s office for 15 years, but most recently worked with the Kingstree Police department.
The town of Lamar was recently without a police force, but deputies in Darlington County helped patrol the area and respond to incidents. The mayor said, “We are moving forward and appreciate the outstanding support of Darlington County’s Sheriff Tony Chavis and his capable team! They were very responsive and very professional. “
The mayor also says the department is taking applications for new officers.
