Missing Florence man could be ‘confused or disoriented’

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Florence Police Department is asking for the community’s help locating a man who may be confused or disoriented due to medical conditions.

William James Smith Jr. (aka “Willie” or “Jet”) was last seen by family members on July 5 at approximately 6:00 pm at his home on N. Jefferson St. in Florence. Lt. Robert Drulis says Smith has multiple medical issues, making it even more important that family members locate the 65-year-old man.

Smith was last seen wearing a black and white shirt and brown pants. Smith is a black male, approximately 5’ 2” and weighs around 130 pounds, according to police. It was reported that a neighbor saw Smith sitting on his porch on July 6 in the afternoon hours and possibly seen on July 8 around 8:00 a.m. walking towards the Speedy Mart store, located at 207 West Lucas St.

Another witness reported Smith walking on the “paved portion” of Malloy St. in Florence, seemingly headed toward Old Marion Hwy. The Florence Police Department has conducted numerous area searches including going door-to-door passing out informational flyers in attempts to locate Smith.
