BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office denied Tuesday allegations it fired four employees because they’re white, federal court filings show.

A federal lawsuit, filed in December, named Sheriff Charles Lemon, who is black, and the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office.

The employees – Billy Cheek, Earl Hood, Ann White, and Raymond Hall – claim they were replaced by African Americans who were not as qualified after Lemon took office in January 2017.

At least three of the people suing had been with the sheriff’s office for more than a decade. The plaintiffs want their jobs back, along with back pay and damages.
