BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Marlboro County Schools announced on Wednesday night the four finalists for its superintendent job.
The district described each of the candidates in a press release.
· Dr. Shawn Johnson, who since 2016 has been superintendent of Barnwell School District 19 in South Carolina and before that was principal at Dillon High School in Dillon, SC for four years;
· Dr. Gregory McCord, since 2012 the Chief Auxiliary Services Officer in the Beaufort (SC) County School District and before that was principal at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School for five years;
· Dr. William Stone, in his 12th year as superintendent of Caldwell County (NC) School District north of Charlotte; before that position, he served as a superintendent since 1998 in two North Carolina school districts;
· and Dr. Freddie Williamson, who was 2017 Superintendent of the Year in North Carolina and is completing his 12th year as superintendent of Hoke County public schools near Fayetteville, NC.
The four people were selected from more than 30 applications, the district said. Thirteen of them were from South Carolina and 10 came from North Carolina.
“Our school board was extremely impressed with each of these four candidates, and we had an exceptional overall group of applicants,” said Lucy Parsons, chair of the Marlboro County Board of Education, in a press release.
The public is invited to meet the candidates on Monday, June 4 at 4:30 p.m. at Marlboro County High School. Anyone attending will be allowed to fill out a rating sheet to share with the school board.
The board will also hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. and discuss the superintendent selection in executive session.
“Among the opportunities facing the new superintendent will be improving academic achievement, providing additional career and technology education, and upgrading school facilities across the district,” the press release said. “School board members plan a facilities referendum later this year.”
The next superintendent will replace acting superintendent Dr. John Jane. He plans to leave the district on July 1.
