MARION, SC (WBTW) – Marion Police Chief Dewayne Tennie is on administrative leave, according to city officials.

A press release from City of Marion Publicist Vicki Nichols, says Chief Tennie was placed on administrative leave Friday with pay “due to a pending investigation.” The city says no other information will be released because the investigation involves a “personnel matter.”

On Sunday, the South Carolina Attorney General’s office announced a press release regarding State Grand Jury indictments Monday at 3 p.m. The press conference will be held at the Marion County Courthouse and is said to be a “news conference to announce indictments and arrests in a State Grand Jury case affecting the Pee Dee.”

It is unclear if the chief’s paid leave and press conference are related in any way. The Attorney General’s release says the office is unable to provide any other details until the press conference “due to the nature of the case and that arrests are ongoing.”
