Marion man surprised to hear he won $100K

COLUMBIA, SC -A Marion lottery player thought he’d won $1,000, but was taken by surprise when lottery staff in Columbia asked how it felt to win $100,000

“Is that what I won?” he asked repeatedly.

On his lunch hour, he had a retailer check his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket and was told he’d have to go to Columbia to get paid. The retailer didn’t tell him how much he won, and he didn’t ask.

“Oh, man,” he said processing the news of his win.

The quick pick he’d purchased from the Circle K #2723230 on E. Liberty St. in Marion for the drawing on Wednesday, January 9 matched all five numbers drawn (6, 12, 13, 17, and 24) to win the top prize of $100,000.

“2019 is off to a good start,” he said tearing up.

The odds of winning $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

For selling the claimed ticket, Circle K #2723230 in Marion received a commission of $1,000.
