The aftermath of Hurricane Matthew flooded several homes in Nichols back in 2016.
One family said, they are heading far away as possible after experiencing Hurricane Matthew.
It took the Wingate’s about a year to get the paperwork done, and completely remodel their home.
While the family said their new home is better designed to withstand a storm, there’s still a concerned about what Hurricane Florence could do the neighborhood.
“A lot of people have a lot of fears because of the flood, so we’re going to move out and see if we can get somewhere a little higher up. I’m hoping for the best,” said Wanda Wingate.
The family plans to head to Maryland or Florida by Wednesday night.
