FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Democratic Gubernatorial primary candidate Marguerite Willis says she is feeling victorious despite her loss to James Smith during Tuesday night’s primary elections for governor of South Carolina.

Willis hosted a party at her home in Florence for her close family and friends to watch the polls as the results rolled in.

After learning of her loss to her opponent James Smith, she said she has no regrets about the way she and her running mate, Sen. John Scott, ran their campaign.

“This whole process has expanded and stretched my heart,” Willis says. “I don’t know what the next step is in my journey, but I know there’s more work to be done.”

Willis added that she does not have plans to run for another public office position in the future.

The Democratic governor candidate, James Smith, will go up against the winner in the Republican primary runoff between John Warren and the current state governor, Henry McMaster.
