FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence police say the driver that crashed into a bank building on West Evans Street Wednesday afternoon has been charged for driving under the influence.

Jason Clardy was arrested after he was released from the hospital, investigators say.

Lt. Mike Brandt with the police department says at approximately 1:03 p.m., officers responded with fire and EMS units to the intersection of Evans Street and Cashua Drive in reference to a single car collision with a building.

Once on scene, officers learned that a Jeep SUV, traveling north on Cashua Drive, left the roadway and collided with BB&T bank, located at 1831 West Evans Street. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital by Florence County EMS.

Officers are still investigating the cause of the collision.
