LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – A man is under arrest in connection to the death of a 16-month-old girl, the Robeson County Sheriff says.

Christian Troy Clark, 23, of Shannon, NC, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, a press release says.

Clark is being held without bail. The sheriff’s office did not say how Clark knew the toddler.

The 16-month-old has been identified as Kinsley Oxendine. An autopsy report says Oxendine died as result of injuries from blunt force trauma.

Initial reports from Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said the girl was 14-months-old, but the Robeson County Sheriff has since corrected that information.

Oxendine died in the hospital Saturday night after she was abused, Sealey said.

According to Sealey, the child was first taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton Friday night. Around 6:10 p.m., someone at the hospital called the sheriff’s office to report possible child abuse. The girl was then taken to Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC, and placed on life support Friday night.

Sealy confirmed that EMS took the child from a home on Rennert Road and transported her to the hospital on Friday.

Sealy added that the child had bruises all over her body.
