The man accused in the hit-and-run case that killed 4-year-old Emily Grace Hall was released from the Florence County Detention Center on a $5,000 recognizance bond.

Eric Christopher Snowden was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death after hitting Hall while she was in a stroller off Pamplico Highway and Lakeview Drive Friday night.

At the time, Hall was being pushed in her stroller by her grandmother, Priscilla Marie Clendinin. Clendinin’s family members said she was taking the 4-year-old back to her mother’s house like usual.

“It was devastating to know that they were hit by a hit-and-run driver, you know. They didn’t even stop to check to see if they could help or anything,” said Barbara Ward Carter, Hall’s aunt.

Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Clendinin also received unlawful neglect charges due to being intoxicated. According to her sister, Freda Wardsweeney, she would never intentionally harm Hall.

“I, her elder sister, would leave my child in her care. I would not at one minute question my sister’s choices in taking responsibility of my child. I’ve always known her to be responsible and her first concern is her grandchildren and their safety,” Wardsweeney said.

News13 spoke with Snowden’s girlfriend after the bond hearing to get her thoughts on the case.

“I know his heart. I know I watched him for 72 hours before we contacted the people we needed to contact to do what we needed to do,” Kristin Anderson said.

Anderson said she thinks Snowden got off because his record is clean, and he’s served in the military. According to Anderson, Snowden served 15 years in the Army and spent time in Afghanistan. The judge set his court date for July 17th. 

Since he has triplett daughters, the incident hit him hard Anderson said.

“When this happened, and he knew it was a little girl, he remembered when his girls were four and he was overseas and didn’t even have that chance with them when they were four.”

Hall’s family members told News13 they are looking for ways to stay strong after everything that’s happened.

“Losing a child, the only thing that’s comforting is knowing that she’s with the Lord,” said Wardsweeney.

The family has created a GoFundMe account to raise money for Hall’s funeral.
