The Lake City Fire Department donated surplus equipment to the Olanta Rural Fire Department on Friday.

The Lake City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to allow the donation.

The equipment includes a water tank, a fire pump, and a small portable engine. The equipment sat in storage for more than three years before being donated.

Lake City leaders said since they’re not using it, it was best to give the equipment to another fire department.

“Really it helps everybody. It shows that each fire department are working now more and more to work closer together. Friendships that, you know just donating a piece of equipment, just makes you stronger,” says Olanta Rural Fire Department Chief Jimmy Coker.
