The concession stands at Darlington Raceway remain busy during the race. Americrown Corporation said they start preparing for big events months in advance.
“We always have to plan for a sell out,” said the regional director of food and beverage, Andrew Foster.
Over 10 semi-trucks start unloading all the food that fans will enjoy this weekend.
“In the weeks following the event, we start looking at what went well and what we can improve. Throughout the year, there’s tons of meetings because this thing only happens once a year,” said Foster.
The regional director said they sell around 15,000 cheeseburgers, 12,000 hot dogs, and 8,000 chicken tenders.
“There’s a lot of semi-trucks loaded with equipment and supplies. Then there’s food trailers that come refrigerated and frozen,” said Foster.
More than 400 employees work during Darlington race weekend. Over 50 people travel with Americrown to different racetracks, but the company also invites local non-profit organizations to help out in the stands.
That includes students from Coker College in Hartsville. The students dedicate their time to raise money for their own sporting events.
“I think the capacity is close to 50,000 and Darlington does a great job of selling tickets. I think we get pretty close on that number on Sunday for the race,” said Foster.
The Southern 500 will take place on Sunday at Darlington Raceway.
