Harvest Hope joined the ‘Stamp out Hunger’ food drive with a special donation for families in the Pee Dee.
“I’m the oldest of seven children and as you can imagine things were a little tight and so there were times we had to utilize these resources,” said advisory board member, Jessica Morris.
The 65th annual event is currently the largest food drive in the nation.
“There’s really nothing better than giving back to your community, especially when the help stays local,” said Morris.
People collected canned goods, cereals, food items and later distributed along the Pee Dee for families in need.
“Now I’m in a position where I can give back and help those people who may have been in a similar situation that I was years ago,” said Morris.
With school coming to an end, and summer right around the corner, students who received free or reduced lunch are left with little options.
“Not only are we helping the community, and an organization but we’ve also been networkng and I’ve got to meet some great people that are coming together for the common good. It’s been absolutely wonderful,” said Morris.
Last year the organization received more than 13,000 pounds of food and this year they’re hoping to top that.
“We really appreciate everyone in the community putting food out for those in need,” said donors relations manager for Harvest Hope, Nicole Echols.
