Harvest Hope Food Bank helps government workers

As the government shutdown closes in on day 32, Harvest Hope Food Bank in Florence plans to help federal employees with a free, open door pantry on Wednesday.

Between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23 at the Hampton Inn & Suites at Hwy 52 & I-95, federal employees can receive food, water, baby items and other supplies. To get assistance, participants must present a federal ID. In an effort to maintain privacy, Hampton Inn & Suites and Raldex Hospitality donated a conference room to host the event.

This is not the food bank’s first effort to help those furloughed in the shutdown.

Last week, Harvest Hope delivered food and supplies to airport workers working without pay in Columbia and Greenville.

In a statement, Mary Louise Resch, Harvest Hope Food Bank’s Disaster Manager, said “we will continue to serve our neighbors until the need is gone.”
