The city of Hartsville is trying to make significant changes in its Downtown area.
People who live and work in the Hartsville area said they’re excited when it comes to bringing in new businesses and expanding the area.
“I think it’s great. Growth is good for everyone and it’s good for the industry and great for small businesses like us. It brings more people to the area and makes people want to stay,” said co-manager at Burry Bookstore Stephanie Glanville.
Over the last couple of years Downtown Hartsville has added new restaurants, business, and hotels, but now city developers hope to expand that.
For 2019, the city will make changes in the Canal District located between Coker Avenue and 4th Street. Several businesses said this is exactly what Hartsville needs.
“I can’t wait, I hope many people come. Hartsville is a great city, it’s a growing city and I think it’s great,” said owner of The Grooming Lounge Brian Ham.
The owner at Timm’s attic has been in the Hartsville area for 13 years. He said he’s seen a lot of improvements and adding new businesses will generate more money for the city and bring new people to the area. “Its a good thing for Hartsville, especially for this side of town. You see a lot of change in College Ave and North side of 5th Street but this side needs to see more,” said Marc Timm’s.
The Mayor of Hartsville is expected to meet with a design team to finalize ideas on this new project.
