A fundraiser was held for Deputy Arie Davis at the Windy Hill Fire Department on Thursday.
The Fraternal Order of Police Pee Dee Lodge 25 wanted to help Davis with her medical treatments, so they decided to sell chicken bog plates from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to Andrew Perry, First Sargent for Florence and Darlington Counties, it was important to come together as a community to support a hero.
“We met with her and found out her needs. She has several different operations coming up, and with those types of things, it’s not expected, and money is obviously tight,” Perry said.
Davis was a part of the ambush on October 3, where she and six other officers were shot near Hoffmeyer Road in Florence. During the ambush, Davis was shot in the leg and has been recovering since.
Although she still has trouble walking, Davis attended the fundraiser and showed the community her appreciation.
“I’m overwhelmed. I’m thankful for all the support from the community and from all over the place. I just want to thank everyone,” she said.
Terry Gainey, President of the F.O.P, said the fundraiser had a great turnout.
“It was just a huge success all because of the community’s involvement and the community’s willingness to be involved to help someone that deserves to be helped,” Gainey said.
In fact, the fundraiser went so well that the group sold out of plates twice before 1 o’clock. All the profits made from the event will go to Davis, who said she looks forward to getting back to work soon.
“I still have a long road ahead of me, but I’m taking it one day at a time,” she said.
