A former superintendent for Florence School District 4 has filed a lawsuit over severance pay.
Spearman and the SCDE responded to the lawsuit and denied the allegations.
Rechel M. Anderson filed the lawsuit against State Superintendent Molly Spearman, the South Carolina Department of Education, and Florence School District 4.
The state took over the district in May, the lawsuit said.
“The defendants Spearman and SCDE admit that on or about May 8, 2018,” Spearman “declared a state of emergency in Florence County School District Four due to chronic financial instability, and as a result, the Board of Trustees was relieved of its duties in management of the school district in accordance with state statutory law.
Anderson’s last day was June 1. She claims she wasn’t paid her severance pay of $115,000.
Both the State Department of Education and Spearman say in their response that Anderson failed to state of cause of action for her lawsuit.
Currently, Anderson servers as the Superintendent of Jasper County Schools in the Beaufort area.
