LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – The Florence School District Three held it’s recruitment teacher fair Saturday.
Almost one hundred, teachers from all over the South came to meet Florence Three leaders in hopes of joining the district.
Roberta Ford says she was welcomed back to the district after moving to Wilmington.
“I moved away to be with my husband. My husband is not going to be able to go back to work. So, I figured if I’m going to be the primary person working. I may as well come back to where I really love,” said Ford.
In 2015, Ford taught middle school special education for two years.
“When I started with them the sixth graders were reading on a Pre-K or kindergarten level. I was able to move them to be able to read on a second or third-grade level within just two years,” said Ford. “That was inspiring to me.”
District Human Resources director Angelia Barr Scott says they are looking to fill 30-40 teacher positions.
Keisa Hudson wants to fill one of the positions as a first-year Spanish or business teacher.
“I’m excited to be teaching because I do want to impact lives of our children,” said Hudson.
Hudson was selected to interview with Lake City high school administrators.
The district has several programs like tuition assistance, salary incentives, and mentoring programs.
“We believe in recruiting but more-so we believe in retention,” said Barr Scott.
Potential teachers are also interested in new science and art magnet schools at Olanta Elementary and J. Paul Truluck Middle School.
“We’re able to offer some subjects we have not offered before. We’re seeking dance instructors, theatre instructors, as well as drama. We’re really excited about that,” said Barr Scott. “People are seeing the great things that are happening here in Florence three.”
School staff says they are hopeful they will fill all of the openings before the school year.
